Class Level Overview

Beginner :

For those who are new to burlesque or want to polish their skills.

We recommend that all students start with a dedicated beginner class to learn the history and essential moves of burlesque. If you have a dance or performance background, one or two terms of beginner may suffice, though you’re welcome to take as many beginner classes as you choose as the routines change each term.

Open / All Levels :

Suited to absolutely everyone! Once you’re comfortable with your skills learnt in Beginner classes, move to Open classes to try new styles and develop further. If a Beginner class doesn’t suit your schedule, start with an Open class.

Intermediate :

Suited to those with 2+ years of Burlesque experience and/or dance training in modern styles. Expect to encounter floor work, as well as dance based elements such as kicks and turns in these classes.

Advanced :

Suited to those with 3+ years of Burlesque experience and/or significant, recent dance training in modern styles. Expect to encounter dense choreography, floor work, as well as dance based elements such as kicks and turns in these classes.

BEGINNER NEO (MODERN STYLE) BURLESQUE
Get ready to bump, grind and shimmy your way back to the early 90s with psychedelic earworm "Groove is in the Heart"! This feel-good beginner class is all about attitude, confidence and discovering your inner burlesque groove. We'll cover all the foundational moves - walks, bumps, grinds, shimmies - as well as fabulous bump skirt choreography and classic glove peels. No experience needed, just bring your inner sparkle and get ready to be "lovely and delicious"!

Glamorous, sparkly costumes draw an adoring crowd, but we all know the best strip happens AFTER the gig! In this edition of Domestici-tease, Fortuna Maxima will show you fun and interesting ways to play with the unsung heroes of the night - your comfy ‘post-show’ clothes. MARILYN MEETS MOULIN

Step into the spotlight and channel your inner sparkling siren - all Marilyn sultriness, Moulin Rouge glamour and a knowing smile.

Guided by cabaret powerhouse Lizzie Moore, this six-week vocal class celebrates confidence, charisma and vocal allure. You’ll refine technique, strengthen ensemble vocals and dive into the decadent world where music meets mischief - with “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend” as your showpiece.

With a focus on storytelling and stage presence, this class lets you explore character and confidence - pure vocal sparkle, smouldering poise and that irresistible mix of charm, timing and theatricality turned all the way up.

There’s quite nothing like an old fashioned jewellery heist to spark joy! The Louvre Job is a cinematic burlesque caper taught by Lenore Noire, set to a mashup of The Pink Panther Theme and Gold on the Ceiling. Part art film, part workplace comedy, this routine transforms everyday hi-vis into high art through cheeky choreography, sly storytelling, and unshakeable confidence. It’s elegant chaos with a hard hat - because sometimes the real masterminds are just there to “check the lights.”

HEADLINERS: Act Development Masterclass
Are you ready to create your burlesque persona and make your solo debut at The Bombshell’s Ball?

This masterclass is designed for students with several burlesque classes under their belts; the ones who are on the cusp of creating a solo act and hitting stages! This class is ideal for soloists, duos or groups who want to create a new act or polish an existing one. During the course, your tutor will work one on one with you to bring out your performance potential, guiding you step by step through act creation while developing your onstage persona. Headliners also includes practical theory on how to get booked, managing social media, budgeting, building an effective website and more!

PRIVATE LESSONS

Private coaching can often be the key to taking your concept or stage persona to the next level!

These sessions can focus on narrative, choreography development, presentation & performance skills, polishing and refining an existing act, creating a new routine or competition prep. Past students coached by our tutors include winners of Miss Burlesque Queensland, Miss Burlesque Brisbane, Miss Burlesque Gold Coast, Miss Burlesque Perth, Burlesque Idol Brisbane, Burlesque Idol Newcastle, title holders of the Miss Pinup Australia competition and many more.

Whether you are working on an existing act, creating something new, developing your persona or preparing for competition season our tutors are here to help you think out of the box, calm your nerves, meet criteria and have you bumping and grinding bigger and better than ever!

IN STUDIO PRIVATE LESSONS: $120 per 1hr session.

PREPARE: Pen & Notebook, ipod with headphones, inspiration (pictures, books, movies, drawings etc), costume ideas, music, props and anything else relevant to your act. If you’re working on a competition act, please have the rules with you.

A note on presenting classes and shows in a post-Covid world:

To keep you all safe, we’ve adopted a number of measures in the studio that you’ll see reflected in our timetable as well as reducing class sizes overall. To maintain a healthy environment please help us by:

Continuing to social distance and sanitize your hands regularly.
Waiting in your car or in the courtyard until the time of your class where possible.
Not sharing costumes, water bottles, props or shoes during this time.
Remembering that our motto for Covid safe classes is “Get in, dance, get out”. Please do not congregate or chat in close groups in or around the studio.
If you are displaying any cold and flu symptoms including but not limited to fever, sore throat or cough, please do not come to class, filming or the Ball.
If you are required to isolate under current close contact guidelines, please do not come to class, filming or the Ball.

We are acutely aware that our new normal means that plans are now always subject to change and we ask you to trust that we will do our best to deliver content in a way that maintains the spirit of the Academy while keeping you all safe.

When government restrictions are put in place, updated or changed, often at the last minute, we will continue to adapt and go above and beyond to continue our course work.

We understand that these changes are not to everyone’s liking, however it’s very much out of our hands. We are a small collective of artists adapting in order to survive during a global pandemic. We thank you for your patience and understanding.
